Dear Students and Families, We are excited to welcome you back for another great year at Buckhannon-Upshur High School! We have many exciting opportunities and initiatives planned for the upcoming school year, and we look forward to having our students back in the building. As we prepare for the first day of school, we would like to share a few important reminders: Our backpack policy will remain in effect this year. Students are not permitted to carry backpacks or large bags throughout the school day. Backpacks and large bags should be stored in each student's assigned locker upon arrival and retrieved at the end of the day. Students may carry a small bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" during the school day. Binders and other classroom materials may continue to be carried between classes. We will also continue using our weapons detection system at the building entrance. All students and visitors will be required to pass through the system before entering the rest of the building. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. In addition, we are continuing to strengthen our building security. Thanks to a recently awarded grant, we are installing additional secured entry points that will be accessible only by staff badges or the building's buzzer system. While this project may not be fully completed before the first day of school, we are excited about these improvements and will share updates as the work progresses. Students will also continue to be expected to follow West Virginia's Personal Electronic Device law. Additional information and expectations regarding electronic devices will be shared with families as we get closer to the start of the school year. We are also excited to welcome several new staff members to the Buccaneer family! We encourage everyone to join us for Open House on Wednesday, August 19, where you'll have the opportunity to meet our faculty and staff, explore the building, and get ready for a successful school year. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back to Buckhannon-Upshur High School for another outstanding year. Go Bucs! Upcoming Events: 8/19 - Open House 3:30 - 6:30 PM 8/20 - First Day of School 9/07 - No School 10/06 - Picture Day 10/17 - Homecoming Dance 10/27 - Family-Teacher Conferences 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Our hearts are with every student, staff member, family, and community member who has been impacted by the recent flooding—not only here in Upshur County, but also in our neighboring counties and school districts facing unimaginable challenges.

In times like these, we are reminded that our communities are connected. We celebrate together, we grieve together, and we stand together. While the road to recovery may be difficult, we know the resilience, compassion, and determination of West Virginians will carry us forward.

If you or your family need support, please know that Buckhannon-Upshur High School is here to help. Whether it’s connecting you with resources, offering encouragement, or simply being someone to lean on, don’t hesitate to reach out.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the first responders, emergency personnel, volunteers, school employees, and countless community members who have worked tirelessly to protect lives, support families, and begin the recovery process. Your selflessness is an inspiration to us all.

Please continue to check on your neighbors, lend a helping hand where you can, and keep all those affected across our region in your thoughts and prayers.

To our friends in every community affected: We stand with you. You are not alone.

Together, we will recover. Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will come back stronger.

Attention Seniors,

Due to weather concerns, graduation has been moved to the Rockefeller Center Gymnasium on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

All graduates are REQUIRED to attend graduation practice on Wednesday at 8:00 AM at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. During practice, each graduate will receive six (6) tickets for the ceremony. Because graduation has been moved indoors, seating is limited, and tickets must be restricted to ensure every graduate is able to have loved ones in attendance.

Additionally, Senior Awards Night will be held on Thursday at 6:00 PM in the auditorium at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Any senior who has applied for scholarships or may potentially receive an award is strongly encouraged to attend.
